2005 HERITAGE CUP CHAMPIONS AND MOTLEY & HOPE SPONSORED BIGGLESWADE TOWN CC START WITH WINS IN ALL THREE EVENING KNOCKOUT CUPS

Against Aryans at home in the Hospital Cup, Biggleswade swept aside this weak Bedford based side to win by 10 wickets. Bowling first, wickets fell at regular intervals and Neil Wilden was the start turn, taking 4 wickets for just 2 runs in 1.1 overs. Aryans were all out for 40.

Tom Dupuy (30 not out) and Richard Smith (11 not out) knocked off the winning runs to set Biggleswade up with a second round tie against Bedford Pakistanis this Thursday at Fairfield (8th June).

In the East Beds Senior Shield competition Biggleswade were drawn against local rivals Caldecote and after two cancelled fixtures due to rain, the game finally went ahead last Thursday. Once again, the Biggleswade bowlers dominated on a slow wicket, restricting Caldecote to just 60 runs from 13 eight ball overs. This time Matt Twigg was the main destroyer, taking 4 wickets for just 3 runs from 3 overs.

This time Town lost 1 wicket in the successful run chase. Skipper Kevin Wright finished 31 not out as Town won with over 5 overs to spare.

Then in the Heritage Cup this week, Biggleswade were drawn against Eaton Socon having had a bye in the first round. Eaton Socon brought a strong side to Fairfield and their opening attack bowled fast an accurately. Jimmy Hart continued his good form from the weekend and blasted 73 off 60 balls to take Town to 147 off their 14 eight ball overs.

In reply Eaton Socon were off to a flier, getting ahead of the run rate before two LBW decisions in two overs tipped the balance back to Biggleswade. Man of the Match, Jimmy Hart, starred with the ball as well taking 3-26 from 4 overs, supporting Harmit Bahra’s 3-30 at the top of the innings.

The win against Eaton Socon puts Biggleswade into the Semi Final to be played on Monday 19th June at a neutral ground to be announced (often this is Henlow!).
